A Short Walk on the Florida Trail

The Florida National Scenic Trail (FT) runs between the Big Cypress National Preserve in south Florida all the way to Fort Pickens National Park in Pensacola, a distance of about 1500 miles. Unlike many other scenic trails, the FT isn’t big on expansive mountain views. But if you like hiking next to or in the water, it’s awesome! It gets around 70 or 80 through-hikers a year, on average.

The FT runs by my home in Chuluota, just a few minutes walk away. January is a good time to walk it, since the trail is pretty dry, and the ticks and chiggers tend not to bother you. And, the tangerines are ripe. The photos in the slide show are from a recent Short Walk on the Florida Trail of just a few hours.

Thanks for taking the time to look!
